Throughout high school and undergraduate college, I was a yo-yo dieter. However, everything I did was only a temporary fix. The problem was, these diets were ones that you could not do forever. I could easily loose 10 pounds and then gain 20 pounds right back after I stopped the diet I was on. And most of the time while dieting, I was starving while doing it! By the end of my senior year of college (May 2006) I was at my all time heaviest of 173 pounds. I did not need to go on another diet. Rather, I needed to adapt a way of eating that I could stick with for life. This is where Dr. Mark Hyman comes in! My grandma saw him on TV and immediately told my mom and she immediately made an appointment for me to visit him in Lenox, MA.
Dr. Hyman and his book “Ultra-Metabolism” saved me! The way I talk about him throughout this blog, you probably think that he is endorsing me! But, after eliminated the foods that my body was sensitive to that were contributing to inflammation (gluten, dairy, eggs, and yeast), the weight just melted off. But not just that, my blood test results improved and I saw for myself just how quickly one could get healthy. Over the last 8.5 years, I have developed my interest in nutrition, cooking, and have learned a lot about myself and my eating issues. Of course there has been ups and downs with my weight, but it has always been a gradual change and I now have the tools needed to get back on track. Eating clean is the only thing that has worked for me and I know I will stick with it for life!
I am doing this latest detox because I need a jump start for the new year. The holidays and the cold are a trigger point for me as I have allowed myself to veer off track. Unfortunately, I think holiday season started in September for me with Rosh Hashanah. Bring on that sweet New Year!
